Thank you to all the parents. grandparents, and friends who came to our LV and Math Portfolio Shares! The students did a terrific job of explaining what we do in class. One of the things that came up at the shares was how to better communicate with parents about what happens in our class each week. Thanks to a BRILLIANT suggestion, I will be blogging each Wednesday with questions you can ask your kid about what he/she has learned in TAAP. I hope this will facilitate some lively conversation about learning and give you insight to our week in TAAP.
Grade 4 LV- Do you think Emily is the Flame of Olympus? What would be good/bad about that? How do you think Emily would react to being the Flame of Olympus? How do you think her father would react?
Grade 5 LV-Why did all the crew die? Why didn't the Ancient Mariner die? What literary devices do you think are most effectively used by this author? Do you have a favorite stanza that you've memorized? What do you like about it?
Grade 6 LV- What is effective/ineffective about the visual summary we see on the Grecian urns? How would this have facilitated the retelling of the story? What will you include in your visual summary? What details in your work will help you to remember the events of this chapter?
Grade 4 STEM- This was your first week in STEM TAAP. What did you learn about Tinkercad and the 3D printer? How might you use the 3D printer in your class? Tell me about the TAAP room- what is it like to be in TAAP? Was it hard to go back to your class and make up your work?
Grade 5 STEM- This week you got to design a cube in Tinkercad. The cubes will be printed in differing densities on the 3D printer. You also started to design a scale that you will use in class to measure the weight of each cube. What have you designed so far on your scale? What do you need to finish next week? It sounds like there are a lot of measurements in this activity. What are some of the things you've had to measure, and how did you do it?
Grade 6 STEM- You used the QFT method of generating questions. How does that work? What questions did you come up with for your topic of the FLU? You were asked to build a quarantine box. What is that and how does it work? Will you be able to transfer your zombie virus without contaminating the rest of the TAAP students?
MATH grades 4-6: Have you checked your SMG portfolio this week? Mrs. Morris sent you the newsletter for the SMG this week to your school email. Did you read it? Will you enter the InvestWrite Challenge? How can I help?
