Grade 4 STEM- This week the geologists in 4th grade used various tests to determine which rock or mineral they had. How do scientists figure out whether they have a rock or a mineral? What tests did you do? What did you discover about your rock/mineral?
Grade 4 MATH- We looked at patterns in fractions and created a tool to help us see how to add and subtract fractions. We also are working on a 3 Act Math problem for the other grades to try! Ask your child to describe the patterns we saw in our fractions. Describe the 3 Acts in our math problem!
Grade 5 STEM- We worked on our packages for ice cream and explored edible packaging using a sodium alginate bath and calcium lactate mixed with yogurt and then with OJ and water. Explain what you are doing with your packaging and how you are improving it. Describe what the edible packaging was like. Do you think it is a viable solution? Why or Why not?
Grade 5 MATH- We read an article about how the stock market used to be written in fractions and discussed how this was difficult to understand. Ask your child why decimals work better and why the market used a system of 1/8.
Grade 6 STEM- We are finishing up our Lurch projects in Tinkercad. Ask your child if they are done with the project. We are hoping to print them out next week. Students also began a brief study of the periodic table. How are the elements organized?
Grade 6 MATH- We continued our work on astronomy and working with large numbers. We also discussed what to make for our business using the 3D printer. Ask your child what his/her ideas are for the business and why this would be effective.
That's all for this week! Have a super long weekend!
