This week closed out the LV module with each team sharing their passion projects with parents. Sixth graders, after reading narrative versions of both the Iliad and the Odyssey this year, wrote a final chapter to Homer's epic tale. This was a very complex writing assignment with the following requirements:
- Write in the style of Rosemary Suttcliff (author of The Wanderings of Odysseus and Black Ships Before Troy). --Apply multiple literary devices (alliteration, simile, metaphor, characterization, onomatopoeia, personification)
-Resolve at least two situations that the original text does not bring to conclusion.
-Show evidence of at least two revisions in which feedback given is applied.
-Final piece must be fully edited with no spelling, punctuation, capitalization, or grammatical errors.
The results were amazing and will shared on the LV page of this site. I am SO proud of their work!! In addition to the writing piece, each student chose a personal passion project to demonstrate their understanding and appreciation of The Odyssey. Projects included: A Prezi time line of Odysseus' life, a slide show of a tool kit used by Odysseus with an actual tool kit complete with armor, map, and boat, a quilt of Odysseus' journey to Hades, a 15 minute Greek Gossip TV show with commercials in which the hosts chat about the ethics and morals of the characters along with the shenanigans of the gods, a map of Ancient Greece with a tour by a Sphero, a poster which depicts each chapter in the Odyssey with an illustration and a brief chapter summary, Odysseus' Year Book, and a papier mache Scylla!
