Nearly all the teams were able to find success in this economy with sound investments in Amazon, Netflix, Boeing, and Apple. Teams who purchased Home Depot and Disney after the hurricanes in the fall were pleased with their returns. A big surprise was Johnson and Johnson. We thought they may have an increase with hurricane relief efforts, but were disappointed to see little growth.
All teams are now busy using what they've learned about businesses to start their own. Last week all Math Teams held meetings in which students applied for jobs in advertising, production, research, secretary, and CEO of each company. Jobs were assigned early in the week. Teams chose a company name, a name for their product, and agreed upon a solid business plan.
This year our businesses will be making products designed by the students on our 3D printer. After using the printer we realized that the school will need another one in order to give each child at Proctor the experience of using one. Sales from our ventures will help pay for an additional 3D printer and filament used in this project. We are hoping to have a sales day in early June. Keep a look out for ads featuring our new 3D designs.
In STEM 4th graders experimented with a watering system for their vertical gardens. Suffice to say, it's harder than it looks!!
5th graders finished their lighting systems for their pyramids and will be moving onto a unit on Rockets and Rovers.
6th graders took chemistry to a whole new level as they experimented with making biodegradable plastics. This week we will take a look at edible plastics- wish us luck! If we figure this out we'll be bajillionaires!
Till next week!
